Discworld cross stitch

I read my first Terry Pratchett novel back when I was still in primary school, and I have loved his books ever since. Growing up after devouring the Discworld has been interesting, and indeed Life tends to be one big Pratchett reference. As a tribute to an amazing series from an amazing author who I’m sure has had a significant impact on my life I present the Discworld:

Baneling Amigurumi

I absently stumbled across an adorable amigurumi baneling in my travels, and decided I had to learn to crochet. Armed with nothing but entheusiasm, some wool and a hook I dived into the World of Amigurumi. Considering it is my first ever amigurumi project, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

I made it for my boyfriend’s birthday and he loves it!

The pattern to Beware the Mighty Baneling is available over on Ch’tite Geekette, and thankyou to Fanny for making her wonderful pattern free.

Magnetic Gold

Interesting snippet for the day:

Gold is a very useful metal but up until recently has not been noted for its magnetic properties, largely due to the fact that it is not magnetic. However scientist have now fixed this oversight, and have created magnetic gold through careful processing and nano-structuring. This has the potential to lead to many interesting developments in the electronics, and particularly the biomedical industries, where its chemical inertness is a major advantage. Having the ability to track and manipulate the gold magnetically may then allow significant improvements to current techniques.

Here is a good article on it (From Science Daily)

Here is the paper on it (Well, the abstract at least.)

Schrodinger’s Cat (Pattern)

Another pattern for the figments of my imagination. This one is based on an image I found from google, original source long since lost. It features the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, and I figured if any cat is a Schrodinger cat (See Terry Pratchett’s Unadulterated Cat), then the Cheshire cat would be. As such the equation I stitched is the schrodinger wave equation from quantum physics.

TF2: Pyrovision (Pattern)

“One shudders to imagine what inhuman thoughts lie behind that mask, what dreams of chronic and sustained cruelty” – The Spy

This one is a take on the Pyrovision for Team Fortress 2, with all its rainbow magic glory. For anyone who hasn’t yet seen it:

Magic: The Gathering Mana Tokens (Pattern)

Well, it has been a while since I last posted anything for my non-existant readership. With this humble offering I intend to start posting more often, if only to learn how to write better.

I made this mana token set ages ago as a request from Sprite Stitch. I liked them enough that I stitched them up as magnets, and they haev been adorning my (starting to get crowded) fridge ever since. The pattern is made in KGChart as usual.
